Kenya’s Business Registration Service Undergoes System Upgrade to Enhance User Experience

Kenya’s Business Registration Service (BRS) is gearing up for a major system upgrade, set to enhance its performance, dependability, and safety measures. During this process, access to services in the business registry on the government portal e-Citizen may temporarily become unavailable. According to BRS Director-General Kenneth Gathuma, the new system will boast fresh features, expanded services, and benefits aimed at enhancing user experience.

The BRS is responsible for company, partnership, and corporation registration, as well as business name searches. Additionally, it manages bankruptcy filings, hire-purchase, and security rights. These services have traditionally been accessible through the eCitizen portal, Kenya’s official digital payments platform for government services.

In the aforementioned financial year, the BRS oversaw over 73,000 entities, comprising 50,876 business names, 34,697 private firms, and 50 public companies. It also registered 100 foreign companies, 251 companies limited by guarantee, and 278 limited liability partnerships. However, during the same period, the BRS deregistered a total of 1,068 entities.

The eCitizen portal plays a pivotal role in the Kenyan government’s push to digitize services, aiming to enhance efficiency and accessibility for citizens.

This system upgrade represents a critical step toward achieving digitalization goals, ensuring that government services become safer, faster, and more accessible. Despite potential challenges in accessing services during the upgrade, the long-term benefits will be significant for registered businesses in Kenya, contributing to overall economic growth.
